We’re almost in the fourth quarter, which means credit card companies are sending out their end of year spending bonus offers. I recently found myself on the receiving end of two offers: one from Chase and one from Barclaycard.
United MileagePlus Explorer Card
As you can see, my spending bonus is pretty easy to accomplish: make 30 purchases between October 1 and December 31 and receive 5,000 bonus points. For me, this is a no-brainer, as I can easily make 30, small purchases and come out way ahead here.
As Doctor of Credit has pointed out, there are a multitude of available offers, some OK, some terrible. If you’re the poor sap who got stuck with “earn 10,000 bonus miles when you spend $30,500,” sorry!
You can see if you’re targeted by clicking here and entering the last four digits of your United MileagePlus Explorer Card and your MileagePlus number.
JetBlue Plus Card
I also received a mailer from jetBlue and Barclaycard in the mail today. Compared to my United offer, this one stinks! Per that promotion:
- Spend $1,500 in October, earn 1,000 points
- Spend $1,500 in November, earn 1,000 points
- Spend $1,500 in December, earn 1,000 points
- If you’re able to meet the above requirements, you’ll also earn an additional 2,000 miles
All in, if you complete this spending bonus, you’ll earn an additional 5,000 miles. Womp womp. This is a terrible return. I’m spending $4,500 to earn what is effectively an extra point per dollar on all spend. I think I’ll avoid this one!
Conclusion
Check your junk mail folders and mailboxes, as you could be targeted for increased spending bonuses from Chase and Barclaycard this quarter! As always, your offers may not match mine above (hopefully they’re better!), so any data points you can provide in the comments are very welcome!
