Barclaycard Arrival Plus card no longer open for signups

I wanted to write a quick note to let everyone know that it appears that the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card is no longer open and available for signups.  The welcome offer on this card has gone anywhere from 40,000 to 50,000 Arrival miles over the last couple of months.  An Arrival mile is worth 1 cent when redeemed for travel – so the welcome offer is essentially $400 to $500.  I tend to use my Arrival miles for things like rental cars, non-chain hotels or other things that I can’t use my “regular” stash of miles and points for

Arrival Plus card no longer open for signups

It appears that the Arrival Plus card is (once again) no longer available for new signups.  Last time (a few years ago) that this happened, we got a “coming soon” message

But now I can’t seem to find a reference at all to it on the Barclaycard site – the only ones that worked before return a 404 page.

What’s next for the Barclaycard Arrival Plus card?

Over on the Barclaycard Travel Community, a Barclaycard member posted the following, in response to questions about the Arrival Plus card

Hello Everyone, Just wanted to update this thread with the latest information. We have currently discontinued this offer so we can test and evaluate different offers to determine which is the most valuable to consumers. Nothing will change for cardmembers who already have the Barclaycard Arrival Plus Mastercard. Current Arrival Plus cardmembers should continue using their card with confidence

If history is any indicator, you know that “changes” are not going to be good!  After the changes a few years ago though, it’s hard to imagine what type of negative changes they could possibly introduce and keep the card competitive with all the other options out there.  It used to be that I felt like this was one of the better cards to put ongoing spend on, but with all the changes, it’s hard to justify the $89 annual fee unless you’re putting a LOT of spend on it.

I will post again if / when the card becomes available again
