With Chase’s newest addition to its (already quite formidable stable), a lot of you are probably looking at the Marriott Premier Plus card. Well, what if you already have a Marriott card?
Can I get the Marriott Premier Plus too?
The short answer is no. Not if you are currently holding the Marriott Rewards Premier card. From the fine print on the Marriott Premier Plus card:
The product is not available to either (i) current cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card, or (ii) previous cardmembers of the Marriott Rewards Premier or Marriott Rewards Premier Plus credit card who received a new cardmember bonus within the last 24 months.
Looks like the standard Chase rules apply. This 24 month waiting period is common across Chase products and receiving bonuses for new cards. This all begs the following question…
Can I get the Bonus?
Yes! As long as it’s been 24 months since receiving the last bonus, all you need to do is cancel your existing card. After cancelling, you’ll be eligible for the bonus on the new Marriott Premier Plus card.
You can use this pattern on most other cards from Chase as well. Typically, these are the only 2 requirements for a new bonus. 24 months from the last bonus, and you can’t currently hold the card.
Is the Marriott Premier Plus subject to Chase’s 5/24 Rule?
I think so. There are a few datapoints indicating that 5/24 governs this card at the Reddit thread here, but I’ve seen some comments indicating approvals over 5/24 scattered across the web. My best advice would be to use caution. If you’re really concerned about it and you’ll be under 5/24 soon, just wait a bit longer to apply for the card.
