Hyatt has sent out a special offer by email to cardholders where you can earn an additional 2,000 bonus Hyatt points after spending $4,000 on your Hyatt credit card in the last quarter of 2018. This equates to a 50% bonus in points earned for that amount of spend.
You have to register for the offer by December 31. The official window for making purchases is between October 1 and December 31. The offer is open to Hyatt Credit Card (old product) and World of Hyatt credit card (new product) cardholders. It is unclear to me if it is targeted or not. I planned to link to a sign up page, but registration was accomplished in a single click through the email.
Is this a good offer?
Assuming you activate the offer and spend exactly $4,000 before the end of the year, you’ll receive 1.5 Hyatt points per dollar spent. If you don’t have the Chase Freedom Unlimited, this *might* be an okay deal. I value Hyatt points at 1.5 cents each, so your return is 2.25 cents per dollar spent. Not groundbreaking, but not bad, either.
If you have a Chase Freedom Unlimited, this deal is pretty much pointless. This card earns 1.5x UR points per dollar, which can then be transferred to Hyatt points. The added benefit here is that you aren’t locked into Hyatt.
The only “no-brainer” here is if you have the World of Hyatt Visa and are planning to put significant spend on the card for either the additional free night at $15,000 in spend, or for the additional elite night credit to qualify for Hyatt status. Might as well get a couple thousand extra points for your efforts.
In conclusion, this offer is probably a good deal for people who otherwise already use their Hyatt card significantly. Otherwise, you can probably leave it on the table.
