A few weeks ago, American Express revamped their Gold Card products, increasing the annual fee but also providing a $120 credit ($10 monthly) for purchases at GrubHub, Seamless, The Cheesecake Factory, Ruth’s Chris Steak House, and participating Shake Shack locations.

Enrolling in the $10 dining credit
Perhaps chalk this up to “I’m the only one who didn’t realize this” but in order to get your $120 dining credit on the Gold card, you have to first ENROLL IN THE OFFER. It doesn’t just come off automatically!
I was logging in to my American Express account today and noticed that my recent purchases at the Cheesecake Factory did not receive their credits
and
I got on to the American Express chat system and when I chatted with the chat agent, she was able to enroll me in the offer and also gave me the $10 credit for October. She said that it takes 14 days after the charge hits to be able to credit it, so since November’s charge was just yesterday, she made a note in the account and suggested I chat back in a few weeks
So – moral of the story. Don’t be like me and make sure you ENROLL your card in the offer before you go out to eat!
Where to get the American Express Gold card
The public (and affiliate) welcome offer on both the personal and affiliate channels is for 25,000 Membership Rewards
But don’t get that offer because you can instead get a welcome offer of 50,000 American Express Membership Rewards if you apply through a refer a friend link. Here are the options to get either option of the American Express Gold card
- American Express Gold Card (personal) – 50,000 points after spending $2000 in the first 3 months
- American Express Gold Card (business) – 50,000 points after spending $5000 in the first 3 months
Please tell me I’m not the only one who didn’t realize you had to enroll in this offer to take advantage of it?
