chase-sapphire-reserve-logoWe’ve talked briefly about the Chase Sapphire Reserve card on this site, though I have not done a full review of the card.  The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is Chase’s answer to the premium cards from other banks, such as the American Express Platinum card and the Citi Prestige card

Now with the Citi Prestige card devaluing, and Citibank changing the rules about who is eligible to get signup bonuses on new cards, to say that the introduction of the Chase Sapphire Reserve card is highly anticipated is…. quite an understatement!

Chase Sapphire Reserve application live! (then not)

The Chase Sapphire Reserve card is supposed to go live this Sunday (August 21st), so nobody was expecting a working link this week.

Yesterday the world exploded as a reddit user found a working application link.  First it was just an application link, then another user found a landing page.  Hundreds of people applied for the card and many were approved instantly, but within an hour or two, the links were taken down.  My guess is that this was a test by Chase to prep for this weekend’s launch that accidentally went public facing

The great news is that many people who were WAY over the Chase 5/24 limits reported being approved.  Whether that was just because this was a link that was not intended to go live or not, or whether the Chase Sapphire Reserve card will be exempt from 5/24 (at least at the start) is still unclear.  Frequent Miler has a rundown.

Confirmation of Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits

One good thing is that we got a pretty good idea of what the Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits will be.  A reddit user captured a screenshot of the landing page, and then later in the day Chase sent out an official Tweet announcing the card, oddly enough linking to a post on The Points Guy blog.

So here’s what we have for Chase Sapphire Reserve benefits

  • 100,000 Ultimate Rewards as a signup bonus after spending $4000 in the first 3 months
  • If you use the points for travel on the Chase Ultimate Rewards portal, they’ll be worth 1.5 cents each (SEE ALSO: Why it pays to check the Chase Ultimate Rewards mall before transferring points)
  • $450 annual fee (not waived).  $75 for authorized users
  • $300 annual credit that applies automatically to anything in the “travel” category.  This appears to even include things like local transportation / subway cards.
  • Priority Pass Select membership
  • Infinite Visa benefits
  • $100 Global Entry reimbursement

I didn’t get in on the action yesterday, but I am planning on applying for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card when it goes live.

Did you apply / get approved for the Chase Sapphire Reserve card yesterday?  Are you planning on signing up?
