Key Link – Citi AAdvantage 50K application page without 24 month language

Overnight, news came out of a new Citi AAdvantage Platinum card offer.  I first learned about it over on the Points With a Crew miles and points Slack channel, but it appears that the original source was over on reddit.

The big news about this offer is that looking through the terms and conditions of the application, there was no language excluding the bonus from people that had opened or closed an AAdvantage card within the past 24 months.

You’ll probably recall that a few months ago, Citibank changed their rules so that if you have opened or closed ANY Citi AAdvantage card within the past 24 months, you won’t get a signup bonus.  You can see the language on most of their credit card applications – here is what it says on the application page of the public offer

American Airlines AAdvantage® bonus miles are not available if you have had any Citi® / AAdvantage® card (other than a CitiBusiness® / AAdvantage® card) opened or closed in the past 24 months.

This 24 month exclusionary language is NOT on the link in this post

My experiences applying

I applied right away and got a pending message and email.  Although in many cases, my suggestion is that you NOT call the reconsideration line and just let the application process play out, this time I felt it was prudent to call in.

For whatever reason, the application processing seemed to take FOREVER.  I was on hold for probably 15-20 minutes but eventually I was told that I was approved, after moving some of my credit line around.  Luckily for me, for some reason I had a lot of Citi cards 😀 so I had a lot of options to move my credit around.

I asked the agent if there was a welcome bonus attached to the card and she confirmed that it was for 50,000 American AAdvantage miles after spending $3000 in the first 3 months.  I am not sure that guarantees that I’ll get the signup bonus but I am at least cautiously optimistic.

Here is the link to the Citi AAdvantage 50K application page I do not get a commission if you are approved through this link.
